Volunteer Code of Conduct

1. Our Commitment

MADEFest is a celebration of Nigerian music, arts, culture, and enterprise. Our volunteers are the heartbeat of the festival and the first face our guests, artists, and partners meet. This Code of Conduct sets out the standards we ask every volunteer to uphold so that MADEFest remains safe, welcoming, and professional for everyone.

• Treat every attendee, artist, vendor, partner, staff member, and fellow volunteer with respect, courtesy, and kindness.
• Represent MADEFest positively at all times, both on-site and online.
• Create an environment where people of every background, tribe, religion, gender, age, and ability feel welcome and safe.

2. What We Expect From You

• Arrive on time for your scheduled shifts and check in with your team lead.
• Wear your official MADEFest volunteer identification and attire while on duty.
• Follow the instructions of team leads, coordinators, and security personnel.
• Stay at your assigned post and let your team lead know before leaving or taking a break.
• Handle festival property, equipment, and materials with care.
• Keep guest and colleague information confidential.
• Ask for help when you are unsure. It is always better to ask than to guess.

3. Health, Safety & Security

• Familiarise yourself with the venue layout, emergency exits, first-aid points, and assembly areas.
• Report any hazard, injury, or security concern to a team lead or security officer immediately.
• Never attempt to manage a medical emergency, fire, or crowd surge alone. Alert the appropriate personnel.
• Do not consume alcohol or any illegal substance before or during your shift.
• Keep walkways, exits, and stage areas clear at all times.
• In an emergency, prioritise your own safety and follow the directions of security and event staff.

4. Zero Tolerance

The following behaviours are not acceptable at MADEFest and may result in immediate removal from the volunteer team:

• Harassment, intimidation, bullying, or discrimination of any kind, in person or online.
• Unwanted physical contact, sexual harassment, or inappropriate comments.
• Violence, threats, or aggressive behaviour.
• Theft, vandalism, or misuse of festival or personal property.
• Possession or use of weapons or illegal substances.
• Sharing confidential information or misrepresenting yourself as MADEFest staff or management.

5. Media, Photography & Social Media

• You may appear in official photographs and video recorded at the event and used for MADEFest promotion.
• Do not share internal information, guest details, or behind-the-scenes issues on social media.
• Always be respectful and positive when posting about MADEFest.
• Only members of the accredited media team may issue official statements to press.

6. Reporting a Concern

If you experience or witness any breach of this Code of Conduct, please speak up. Every report is taken seriously and handled with discretion.

• Report to your team lead or any MADEFest coordinator on-site.
• Approach a clearly identified security officer if you feel unsafe.
• Email the organising team at volunteers@madefest.com after the event if needed.
• You will never be penalised for raising a genuine concern in good faith.
